Oil Separators

Class I oil separators are widely used in areas where there is a risk of petroleum products entering stormwater or wastewater, such as:
  • Parking lots
  • Roadways
  • Industrial facilities
  • Petrol stations
  • Car washes
  • Repair shops
  • Storage yards
  • Other similar locations
These devices are designed to treat stormwater and industrial wastewater before it is discharged into the sewer system or the environment.
Differences Between Class I and Class II Oil Separators
  • Class I oil separators must, according to European Standard EN 858, ensure that the hydrocarbon content in treated water does not exceed 5 mg/l. These separators are equipped with coalescers, which promote the merging of small oil droplets into larger ones, accelerating their separation from water.
  • Class II oil separators are simpler in design and operate solely based on gravity and differences in specific weight. They allow a hydrocarbon content of up to 100 mg/l in the treated water.
According to EN 858, the treatment of oily wastewater must begin with a sand-mud trap, which removes heavier particles from the water before it enters the oil separator. This trap is either installed in front of the separator or integrated into its structure.
